Harrogate Flower Show

Saturday 28th April

A bright sunny day, a perfect day to be at the flower show, we played the last "spot" 3.30 till 5. The band played well, a little low on numbers with Saturday jobs taking effect. The audience enjoyed the varied performance given and one lovely lady said she'd really enjoyed watching the drummers at the back! Sadly as it was the last spot of the day the audience did drift away towards the end of the afternoon, but it was another pleasing performance from the Concert Band team.

Harrogate International Youth Music Festival

Saturday 7th April - Marching Around Town

We arrived nice and early at the stray, 9 o’clock sharp, put on jackets and got instruments out, ready for massed photo on the stray. There was a lot of waiting around for the actual parade to start. When it finally started we set up in order and put music in lyres. We started marching along to Barnard Castle by Goff Richards and played through it, whilst marching. When the parade was over we listened to other bands, dancers and choirs on the stray and packed up the trailer for another day.

Sunday 8th April - Easter disco number one

The Easter disco started at 7:30pm at the holiday inn next to the international centre. It took a while to get the party started but eventually everyone was dancing the night away to some really good music. The chaperones for the evening were Mr Hallas, Mrs Zealand and Mrs Randall

Monday 9th April - Monday music night

The first concert of the festival was at St. Wilfred’s church. We played March for Kim by John o’ Riley, Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams, Frolic for Trombones by Reginald Heath and Spanish Fever by Jay Chatterway. We were on first then listened to Nicosia school orchestra from Cyprus, Vox Angelica from Sweden, The Hunter Singers from Australia and Cantata Scholarum from Poland.

Wednesday 11th April - Easter disco number two

This Easter disco started at 7:30 also but was at the Crown Hotel. Much fun was had by all concerned, with some of our girls attracting lots of attention from the boys from Nicosia school orchestra.

Thursday 12th April - Finale concert

Having been to only two (very early morning) rehearsals, we turned up at the conference centre looking forward to a good if long evening. We weren't disappointed, every group that took part performed brilliantly some of the highlights being, Cantata Scholarum, The Leeds City Steel Drum band and Theatre Box. The massed band went really well playing a program of British themed Music the audience clapped, sung and generally joined in wherever possible!

All in All a fabulous week, enjoyed by everyone involved. We made new friends and heard new music from different cultures that was truly inspiring.
